ERDOGAN ANNOUNCED: Turkey will strengthen new permanent bases in northern Iraq

Turkey will strengthen its newly established permanent bases in northern Iraq in the coming months, after 12 Turkish soldiers were killed in that region, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today.

 

Twelve Turkish soldiers were killed last week in northern Iraq, in clashes with militants of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in Turkey, Reuters reported.

 

In recent years, we have built hundreds of kilometers of roads in northern Iraq for our permanent bases. We are carrying out the same activities in the new places that we control - Erdogan said at the meeting in Ankara, which was broadcast on television.

 

According to him, by the time spring arrives, Turkey will complete the infrastructure of the newly established bases in the north of Iraq and make it impossible for terrorists to set foot in that region.
