On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a military operation to demilitarize Ukraine.
Addressing his fellow citizens, he said that the circumstances "require decisive and urgent action", since the Donbass republics turned to Moscow for help. Putin pointed out that the goal of the operation was "protection of people who have been exposed to harassment and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years." According to him, for that, it is planned to carry out "demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine" and to bring to justice all war criminals responsible for "bloody crimes against civilians" in Donbas.

WHAT HAS CHANGED:
- Battle of Rubizhne and Severodonetsk, attempt to block Lisichansk.
- Advancing DNR forces from Volnovakha in the direction of Kurakhovo and Krasnoarmejska (Pokrovski), covering Ugledara.
- Advancing forces of the DNR and the Russian Federation on the Donetsk-Gorlovka section in the direction of Avdeyevka-Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk). Try to cut the Donetsk group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine north of Avdiivka.
- Attack on the military airport in Kramatorsk.
- Attack on the airport in Dnepropetrovsk.
- Attack on the defense company "Artem" in Kiev. The company manufactures missile systems and produces various types of artillery shells.
